What are uPVC French Doors?

uPVC is a type of building material, commonly used indoors that having windows included in them, such as french patio doors. This material is less expensive to build with and purchase, so it is perfect for homeowners who are on a budget.

uPVC is also less maintenance than other types of door frames. For instance, aluminium French doors are harder to care for as they can rust more easily. This is often the case if you are installing a French patio door or another form of external French door

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What are French Doors?

French doors are a light construction door which features various glass panes usually spanning most of its length and are often fitted as double doors rather than singular doors.

How to secure French Doors that open out?

External doors that open outwards are often more vulnerable to brute force attacks, there are a number of ways you can make your outward opening door more secure. As the hinges for outward opening external doors are on the outside they tend to be exposed and easily accessible for burglars, install reinforced hinges such as non-removable pin hinges or stud hinges to be safe. You may also consider installing a latch guard to prevent forced entry, adding a door lock barricade designed for outward swinging doors, or using a patlock security device for french doors.

Can French doors open both in and out?

French doors can open inwards and outwards but not both directions, so you’ll need to decide which direction you want your door to open before having them installed. Whichever way you decide to have your french doors open, it won’t affect the integrity of the door. There are pros and cons to your french doors opening either way.

What’s the difference between French doors and patio doors?

The main difference between french doors and patio doors is how they open. French doors often open outwards on hinges while patio doors operate and slide along a track to the side.
